Concerns and Procedures

What should you do if your son or you has a problem in school? Let us help!

The first thing you should do is let the child’s teacher know what the problem is. You can do this in a number of ways.

  1. Write a note in the homework journal.
  2. Request a phone call/appointment with the teacher through the homework journal.
  3. Ring the school secretary Sandra 021 450 2024 to arrange an appointment to meet with the teacher.

Please note: Teachers cannot be taken from their class/teaching duties during class time unless pre-arranged by appointment. Whilst your concern or issue may seem urgent, the teacher must organise a suitable time to meet with you when his/her pupils are being cared for by another teacher. Parents are never to approach classes to meet teachers without a previous appointment and letting the principal/secretary know. This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our happy and busy pupils, parents and staff members.

Communicating/Meeting with St. Patrick’s B.N.S. Staff Members: Give Respect, Get Respect!

Ó gach duine a dhícheall!- From each person their best.

We have very high expectations of respectful communication with and from all our pupils and parents. Even when issues/concerns/ problems arise in your son’s educational life, we have very high expectations of respectful communication from all parties i.e. parents, pupils and staff. We ask you to keep this in mind in all communications, interactions, phone calls and meetings with the school, staff members, other parents and other pupils.

When you meet the teacher explain the problem as clearly and calmly as possible. Be prepared to work with the teacher and your child to resolve the problem. Be prepared to hear the teacher/staff members viewpoint or side of the story.

If the problem cannot be resolved at this level, the next step is to involve the school Principal Shane Foley. You should make an appointment by ringing the school Secretary Sandra O’ Callaghan on 021 450 2024.

If the problem remains unresolved the next step is to contact the Board of Management of the school. You can do this by emailing your concern to Philip O’ Kelly, Chairperson of the Board of Management at spb.ias@eircom.net.

You can also send by post to Philip O’ Kelly, Chairperson BOM, St. Patrick’s B.N.S., Gardiners Hill, Cork.
